The Beaver

The Beaver prototype flew for the first time on August 16, 1947.  The last one, a Turbo Beaver, was built in 1968.  A total of 1,692 aircrafts of this type were built, in three different versions. The US military was the main user of the Beaver and bought more than 800.

During the Korean War, the Beaver was employed for transporting supplies for troupes, as an ambulance, for aerial photography, for light bombing and to support the infantry.  It was also used by the Aviation and the US Navy.

At the level of civil aviation where it is currently in use, it turns out to be the best bush plane ever built. The Beaver was recognized in 1987 as an award winning aircraft and one of the ten most important engineering achievements of the century in Canada.
